July 5 - Psalm 47 | Psalm 48 | Psalm 49 | Psalm 84 | Psalm 85 | Psalm 87

Good morning everyone,

This morning the six psalms we read are all psalms of the Sons of Korah. “Who are these Kora guys?” you might ask. Well, you remember back in Numbers God appointed the tribe of Levi to
take care of the Ark, the tabernacle and everything that went inside of it, right? Levi had three sons one named Koath, whose family line were responsible for the care of the ark, the table, the lamp stand, the altars, the articles of the sanctuary used in ministering, the curtain, and everything related to their use. They were under the direct supervision of Eleazar, son of Aaron.

Now Koath had a grandson named, (here it is) Kora, who was a bit of a rebel rouser and began to run with the sons of Eliab and On the son of Peleth. Together they formed a gang and challenged Moses and Aaron for the right to lead God’s people. Big mistake! HUGE!! God was so not happy about this and after warning the other tribes to distance themselves from Kora, we’re told in Numbers 16 that the ground split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. Bad day for the naughty boys of Kora. The good news is, their sons were spared and went on to become, among other things, great leaders in the choir as well orchestrating the music in the Temple.

The psalms credited to the sons of Kora are not only poetic and visual but they express a deep loyalty, a commitment to God, with powerful messages of perseverance and strength. I love the picture this paints and the hope it projects for anyone who has family rebellious towards God.  You do not, we do not have to live a life rejecting Yahweh’s authority just because our ancestors did and some still do. No way! We can choose life, we can choose Jesus. Each and every one of us can let our own songs of renewed purpose and redemption flow out of a heart of humility as we remember the fallen state from which He raised each and every one of us and the redemption that we are all allowed through His grace. This was certainly the case for the sons of Korah. Right on?

I, just real quick, want to touch on Psalm 87, in verse five it says, “Indeed, of Zion it will be said, ‘This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her.’” In Revelation 21 it is said that, as born again Christians, our name is written in the Lamb of Life’s book, we have been established in heaven. That is so totally exciting to me and it should be for you too. It also excites me when I see someone snatched from the clutches of the enemy and accepts Jesus into their heart, knowing they too will have their name written in that precious book.

I have a hymnal book that I love to read from time to time and in it is an old hymn written by a beautiful woman (how could she not be? Right?) named Mary A Kidder, who moved to heaven in 1905; the hymn is called “Is My Name Written There?” and though too long to put the whole hymn down, the refrain reads,“Oh! that beautiful city, with its mansions of light, With its glorified beings, in pure garments of white; Where no evil thing cometh to despoil what is fair; Where the angels are watching, yes, my name's written there.” Is your name written there? Mine is and I can hardly wait to hear the words, from Matthew 25 “Well done, good and faithful servant!” I totally love, love, love my Abba Father! Amen?

Have a great day and to God be all the glory.

God bless you all …
